Social Studies
Our three second grade classed presented songs, poems, life events and cheers about Martin Luther King Junior this year. The second grade social studies curriculum introduces students to important historical figures and important events in our nation's story.
The Houghton Mifflin’s Work Together book helps second grade children explore building community in our class, city, country, and world. Themes explore communities and regions, mapping skills and landforms, as well as work and our government.
During December students investigate winter holidays in a country of interest and present Christmas Around the World reports.
Field Trips
These students are getting a hands-on experience of pioneer life by completing pioneer children's chores. On our visit to Pioneer Farm Museum the students took care of animals in the barn, rode a horse drawn wagon and learned of the strict rule in the one room school house.
Stepping Back in Time
D.L. explains how this artifact was used to plant seeds during Seattle's early days. Second grade students visit the Museum of History and Industry to learn about the settlement of the Puget Sound area.
