Second Grade Math

Students in second grade do hands-on work with manipulatives to learn, review, and practice math concepts. *Students are expected to know math addition/subtraction facts to 20 within 3 seconds each by the end of second grade year.  Practice at home with the facts enables students quicker and more accurate success in second and third grades.

Using the Everyday Mathematics curriculum, teachers work with students to introduce and guide students to fluency in the following math concepts:

Addition/Subtraction to 12

Addition/Subtraction to 20

Double-digit addition/subtraction

Money (coins)

Time (analog)

Charts and Graphs

Measurement

Geometry

Early multiplication (introduced in June)

Early division (introduced in June)
